A common domestic violence charge is violating a protective court order that has been issued.  Penal Code section 273.6 specifically states:

"Any intentional and knowing violation of a protective order, as defined in Section 6218 of the Family Code, or of an order issued pursuant to Section 527.6, 527.8, or 527.85 of the Code of Civil Procedure, or Section 15657.03 of the Welfare and Institutions Code, is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by imprisonment in a county jail for not more than one year, or by both that fine and imprisonment."

Penal Code section 166(a)(4) covers violations of restraining orders making it a misdemeanor if there is, "[W]illful disobedience of the terms as written of any process or court oder or out-of-state-court order, lawfully issued by any court, including orders pending trial."

It is not uncommon for court order violations to occur when desperate spouses or domestic partners try to reconcile despite the law.  Unfortunately, if one person ends up unhappy, he/she can simply call the police and have the other arrested for disobeying the court order.  Even worse, spouses can be vindictive and lure the other "fool for love" into committing a violation under the guise of reconciliation.
