Battery
Battery is defined in California Penal Code section 242 as:
"A battery is any willful and unlawful use of force or violence upon the person of another."
In other words, you hit or use some type of unwanted force against another person. Simple battery is a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment in the county jail for up to six months and up to a two thousand dollar fine. (See Penal Code section 243(a).)
